There are many public and third sector organisations working the front line of citizen need within their place. All will have their own focus and own specialisms but all should be working for a holistic understanding of needs to ensure complementary solutions and services. The Local Government Association partnered with iStandUK, IEG4 and private, public and voluntary organisations have attempted to develop a core set of needs that can be used as a consistent means to link from front-line issues to local services.
The range and diversity of local public services are vast. They are delivered by many different organisations. Different people need different combinations of service and different channels of delivery. To understand the landscape of what services are available, to whom they are directed and how to apply usually involves an in-depth knowledge of local government or complex and time-consuming research.
The Local Government Association partnered with iStandUK, IEG4 and private, public and voluntary organisations have attempted to develop a consistent way of describing all local services as online digital information, no matter what the context, such that the data can be made available to public organisations and software developers to provide a means for citizens to find appropriate services from across organisations and local borders geographical boundaries.
Data standards provide the essential ingredients to provide consistency across organisational and sector boundaries and an ability to create cohesive and holistic understanding and solutions
